The VIP Art Fair

We are all well versed in the delights of online shopping. We’ve bought books, clothes, shoes and even cosmetics, but art? And art showcased by some of the most important contemporary galleries? Cue the VIP Art Fair.

In essence, VIP is an online fair doing what a traditional fair would do. In their words: translating the “experience of a traditional bricks-and-mortar fair to an online environment”. where some of the world’s most prolific galleries (Gagosian and Studio 94 to name but a few) have virtual booths that can be browsed by avatar collectors. Every fair (there are 4 this year), is themed around a different medium and lasts between 2 and 5 days. Art enthusiasts can tune in from over 30 countries around the world and engage in dialogues with gallery staff, tour their virtual maps and buy; all in real time.

There is no doubt that VIP is expertly curated, the art on sale is of upmost quality and that it is a novel concept, but is a picture of a picture ever going to be enough?  Perhaps it will never truly replace the joys surrounding a tangible art fair, but it is undoubtedly a fantastic initiative with the added bonus of being positive to your carbon footprint. Definitely worth checking out at www.vipartfair.com
