Studio Top Spot: Kings Cross Filling Station
30th July 2012
The Filling Station in Kings Cross is a canal-side semi-permanent pop-up. Designed by Architects Carmody Groarke, the abandoned petrol station now boasts translucent fibreglass fluted walls and neon signage.
Several of the studio have already eaten there and they all spoke highly of the alternatively topped wood fire pizzas.
The design’s simple but effective. The Filling Station is decked out with basic furniture, has a great atmosphere and an even better location. But it’s the concept that really makes it; the creative use of an unused plot put aside for re-development with a history we’re all familiar with.
Its novel, and very nice, to eat something other than a mayonnaise heavy sandwich in a petrol station forecourt.
Our advice: get there now before September brings the contents of CSM to the station.
