PORTOFINO

Splendido

Preserving its legacy as the ‘Grande Dame of Portofino’, Belmond’s Splendido is a timeless retreat on the Ligurian coast and an icon of Italian hospitality.

The design situates guests in Portofino, creating a comforting feeling of being at a friend’s holiday home, while allowing them to experience the beauty, art, and life of this magical place.

Martin Brudnizki

Formerly a 16th-century Benedictine monastery, Splendido is steeped in history, framed by lush gardens, pastel façades and the romance of la dolce vita.

MBDS approached the transformation with deep respect, reimagining the hotel as a grand coastal villa. A layered, residential approach ensures it feels intimate, characterful and unmistakably Italian.

Furnishings sourced from local estate sales and auction houses tell a story of heritage, with some pieces delicately restored in the Genoese style.

The suites channel the charm of a well-travelled aristocrat, complete with curated antiques and timeworn treasures.
